N-up PDF

One PDF · 25 MB max

Clear scope

This n up PDF tool arranges pages from one PDF onto fewer A4 sheets. It does not merge files, extract a page subset, or edit metadata.

2-up or 4-up layout

Choose 2 pages per sheet or 4 pages in 1 page PDF. Each source page is scaled to fit its cell on an A4 sheet.

One source PDF

The tool reads one file, reports the page count, and keeps leftover pages on a final sheet when the count is uneven.

Safe write boundary

Encrypted PDFs fail fast. A file with a signature field stays read-only because arranging pages rewrites the PDF.

Three steps

The n up PDF tool follows a visible three-step workflow. It keeps the original file on your device and creates a separate verified copy for download.

  1. 1

    Choose Your PDF

Choose one PDF up to 25 MB. The n up PDF tool reads its page count inside this browser tab.

  2. 2

Choose 2 or 4 Pages Per Sheet

Use 2 pages per sheet for a stacked layout, or 4 pages per sheet when you need four source pages on one A4 page.

  3. 3

    Verify and Download

Arrange the pages, let the n up PDF tool verify the sheet count, then download the result.

Practical uses

Use n-up when the job is fewer sheets, not a new document. Each example stays inside the 2-up and 4-up boundary.

Make a compact reading copy

Put two source pages on one A4 sheet when a draft, worksheet, or meeting pack should use less paper and still stay readable.

Create a 4-in-1 handout

Place four pages in 1 page PDF when you need an overview, proof sheet, or classroom handout and the source pages remain legible after scaling.

Keep the work on one device

Arrange pages locally when the file should not go to an upload form. The browser creates a separate copy and leaves the source PDF in place.

What an n up PDF actually creates

An n up PDF puts multiple source pages on each output sheet, also called multiple pages per sheet, 2-up, or 4 pages in 1 page. This tool lays out one PDF locally into A4 sheets. It does not print, change printer settings, or store a cloud copy.

2-up stacks pages vertically; 4-up uses a two-by-two grid, left to right then down. Leftover pages stay on a final sheet. For example, a five-page PDF becomes two 4-up sheets: four pages on the first and one scaled page on the second.

The output is a new PDF byte structure. Visible page content is copied into the new cells, but file size, page count, and internal ordering change. A 12-page source becomes 6 A4 sheets on 2-up, or 3 A4 sheets on 4-up. Review the downloaded copy in your normal PDF reader before you send, archive, or print it.

How an n up PDF fills the 2-up and 4-up grids

Reading order stays the same as the source file. The first source page fills the first cell, the next page fills the next cell, and the tool never shuffles pages to chase a tighter pack. On 2-up, page 1 sits above page 2. On 4-up, page 1 is top-left, page 2 is top-right, page 3 is bottom-left, and page 4 is bottom-right.

Pages keep their aspect ratio and orientation, centered within each cell with a small sheet margin. Landscape pages may leave more space above and below. The tool does not crop artwork, rotate it to fill a cell, or add crop marks.

Empty source pages still occupy a cell. If a PDF has a blank page, that blank page is drawn as an empty cell instead of being skipped. That keeps page numbers and reading order predictable after the n up PDF is created. If you want a blank page gone first, remove it in another tool, then bring the single remaining PDF here.

When an n up PDF should use 2-up or 4-up

Use 2 pages per sheet when you want a compact reading copy and still need each source page large enough to stay legible. Meeting notes, worksheets, and draft reviews often fit this layout. Use 4 pages per sheet when the goal is a handout, proof sheet, or overview and the source pages remain readable after scaling.

This page is for one PDF. It does not merge several files into one n up PDF sheet, and it does not let you pick page 3, 7, and 12 while skipping the rest. If you need a subset of pages first, prepare that file in another tool, then bring the single PDF here.

An n up PDF is a layout task, not a metadata task. Titles, authors, XMP packets, and signature fields are outside this page. Use the metadata tools when those values are the job. Use this n up PDF tool when the job is fewer sheets with more source pages on each sheet.

How the local n up PDF workflow stays honest

Choose one PDF up to 25 MB. The browser reads the file, reports the page count, and lets you choose 2 or 4 pages per sheet. Encrypted files fail immediately. A detected signature field stays read-only because arranging pages rewrites the PDF.

After you arrange the pages, the tool counts the output sheets and checks that the saved PDF matches that count. Download appears only after that check. The source file remains on your device; replacing the file or closing the tab clears the current tool state.

Output is fixed to A4, without editable gutters, custom sizes, crop marks, or added page numbers. Use another layout workflow if you need Letter or A3. The n up PDF does not flatten forms or preserve bookmarks and original page labels; keep the source when those features matter.

Know the limits

01

The n up PDF tool arranges pages from one PDF onto A4 sheets with 2 or 4 pages per sheet. It does not merge separate files, extract a custom page range, reorder pages beyond the grid, rotate pages, add page numbers, or keep the original page size.

02

Saving produces a new PDF byte structure, so file size and page count change. The tool verifies the output sheet count; it cannot guarantee identical print margins in every printer or PDF reader.

03

One PDF up to 25 MB is supported. Encrypted PDFs fail fast. A file with a detected signature field stays read-only because any rewrite can affect signature validity.

FAQ

These answers cover 2-up, 4 pages in 1 page PDF, leftover pages, local processing, and the difference from metadata tools.

What does an n up PDF tool do?

An n up PDF tool places more than one source page onto one output sheet. This page supports 2 pages per sheet and 4 pages per sheet, then writes a new A4 PDF in your browser.

Can I put 4 pages in 1 page PDF here?

Yes. Choose 4 pages per sheet when you want four source pages on one A4 page. The tool scales each source page to fit its cell and keeps leftover pages on a final sheet when the page count is not a multiple of four.

Does multiple pages per sheet change the original file?

No. The n up PDF tool creates a separate output. Your source file stays on your device, and download appears only after the saved PDF contains the expected number of sheets.

Do I need to upload the PDF or create an account?

No. This free N-up PDF tool works online with no sign-up or upload. Reading, arranging, verification, and download preparation happen in browser memory.

What page size does the n up PDF output use?

Every output sheet is A4. Source pages are scaled to fit their cells. The tool does not crop source content, change reading order, rotate pages, or keep the original page size.

Can I arrange an encrypted or signed PDF?

Encrypted PDFs are rejected because this browser tool has no decryption workflow. A PDF with a signature field can show its page count, while arranging stays disabled because rewriting the file can invalidate its signature state.

Is an n up PDF the same as merging several PDF files?

No. This n up PDF tool arranges pages from one PDF onto fewer sheets. It does not combine separate files, extract selected pages, or reorder pages beyond the 2-up or 4-up grid.

How many A4 sheets will my n up PDF create?

Sheet count is source pages divided by 2 or 4, rounded up. A 7-page file becomes 4 sheets on 2-up and 2 sheets on 4-up. Leftover pages stay on the last sheet instead of being dropped.

Does the n up PDF crop or rotate my pages?

No. Each source page keeps its aspect ratio and is centered in its cell. The tool does not crop artwork, rotate a page to fill unused space, or change the original reading order.

What happens to a blank page in an n up PDF?

A blank source page still occupies a cell. The tool does not skip empty pages, because that would change reading order. Remove unwanted blank pages first if you need a tighter pack.

Should I use an n up PDF or a metadata tool?

Use this page when you need multiple pages per sheet. Use the metadata editor, viewer, or remover when the task is Document Info or detectable XMP, not page layout.
